PUBLICATIONS

The Hamilton County Genealogical Society's quarterly journal has 32 pages of information about Hamilton County genealogical records, repositories and resources. The Tracer is the 2007 winner of the National Genealogical Society's Newsletter Competition in the category of County or Local Genealogical or Historical Society. The criteria are material interest, variety and originality, writing and editing quality, readability and attractiveness, and overall publication makeup.

The Tracer is indexed in the Periodical Source Index (PerSI), Genealogical Periodical Annual Index and the Ohio Genealogical Periodical Index: A County Guide. An annual index is prepared by the Chapter and sent to members and subscribers. Click on the Research Aids button for a cumulative index covering the 1990-2005 issues.

The Society encourages members and non-members to submit material for publication, while reserving the right to accept or reject any material submitted. The Society does not assume any responsibility for errors of fact that come to its attention. Advertising is not accepted. Queries are printed without charge for members. A fee of $3.00 for non-members includes publication of one query and the issue in which it appears. Additional queries for non-members cost $3.00 each. All queries must show a connection to Hamilton County or the surrounding area in southwestern Ohio. To submit, click on HCGS Query Submission .

30 Years of The Tracer and Gazette now on CD or DVD !

For the first time Cincinnati area researchers now have a word searchable resource for family and local history data. 30 years of The Tracer (over 110 issues !) are now available on 2 CDs or 1 DVD. Since the first issue in 1979, members of HCGS have gathered unpublished or difficult to access local genealogical information to put in The Tracer. Every Gazette, the quarterly newsletter, published through 2008, every annual surname index and an index for every significant article for 1979-2008 is also included. The issues are produced in the PDF format which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free program. A link to download the current version is included.

Topics include: African-American sources, Church baptism and birth records, books acquired by PLCH 1982-2008, cemetery deeds at Recorder's office, church histories, township, Reading and various church death records, Deutsche Pionier Verein, 1868-1950 member list and birthplaces, Germany emigration records, church, newspaper and probate court marriage records, Cincinnati Pioneer Assoc. 1885 membership list, court house research guides, Hamilton county community histories, and many more.

HAMILTON Co. PROBATE ABSTRACT 1791-1837 Re-issued on CD !

From 1977 to 1985, the Chapter published abstracts to the earliest surving probate records. It was decided to reissue in Adobe Acrobat on CD so that every name could be searchable. Now available for $15.
